I cannot believe he made it back out there. I saw a month long sprain or even IR with an ACL.

I think Jones actually threw the ball pretty well no? Nice timing with Bryant and the TD pass was pretty nice as well. So Connor is the 4th string back at this point?

No surprise at all that the secondary is going to be the weakest link once again. Boo!

Uh, a team needs to have a weakest link. You would have complained as well had it been our WRs or anything else. Fact of the matter is that Yes, our secondary has looked bad, but not as bad as it might seem

    1. We miss Mitchel. Golden has been a huge liability

    2. Passrush has not been up to par yet

    3. The secondary typically suffers the most without proper gameplaning.

Not saying they'll be one of the top groups in the League, but they could easily be better than what we have seen, and indeed better than last year.

For how many years has the secondary been a liability? I lost count.

I have HUGE concerns with this secondary as well. As to this year we only have the results so far to look at. Game planning? Ok we'll see what happens when we "game plan" the defense. Way to early to tell what's going on in preseason. Especially the way the Steelers play the preseason. May not be a team out there that plays the starters less in preseason than the Steelers. I may be wrong but it seems to me the starting D has played against some pretty weak QBs and looked pedestrian so far? Readily admit I may be wrong. If we are unable once again to play any press coverage then we are going to have problems this year. I don't think it's wrong to look at what's happened so far this preseason and express some concern. You can do that and still be a Steelers fan.

You can absolutely be concerned about the secondary. I have my concerns, mainly that #2 corner spot where Cockrell has looked pretty bad, much worse than last season where I believe he was solid. Not great, but solid.

My main point is, with Davis and Mitchell, whenever he gets back there, I believe we have one of the best safety tandems in the league. A lot of people don't like Mitchell for the misconception that he's a penalty magnet and all that but he's a leader of the defense, a tone setter and the rest of the guys love him. Sean Davis, IMO is quietly one of the best players on the defense, and barring injury, I think more people will see that this year. Artie hasn't played enough this preseason to really judge him but he really showed he can play last year and he's performed really well against AB in camp. Even AB said when Artie missed time that he needed him back out there because he actually tests him. I'm not worried about Artie.

So basically what I'm saying is, it is absolutely warranted to have concerns about the secondary, I do as well, but mainly what it boils down to is the #2 CB spot. Hopefully Sutton will continue to show some of what he showed on Saturday and will be on the field sooner rather than later.

Plus our pass rush SHOULD be better. Not really sure how often we blitzed, or schemed to get to the quarterback in the preseason. Cockrell plays better in zone and has struggled more in man.
As a unit our D is much faster than it's been and I expect them to improve on their 2nd half improvements from last season.

Yes the secondary looked scary so far but you still have to look at the entire picture and judge it in real games.

Man I hope you're right I'd love to see at least the ability to play some press coverage. I'm done worrying about it though. Tomlin probably has a better handle on it than I do :) Let's get the season going and let's see what we got!

It's not a perfect roster. Far from it. Everyone knows that. The optimism comes from the fact that this team went to the AFC Championship Game last year. One game from the Super Bowl. With the injuries they had, no #2 WR, etc... On paper, this team is unquestionably better than last years team. Martavis Bryant alone is cause for optimism and celebration.

Honestly, my biggest concern heading in is Le'Veon going in there and popping his hammy week 1. I get why he didn't report to camp. I completely understand it, just like most of the players do, but imo he's stayed away too long.

We'll see, but I'm expecting them to have another shot at New England in the AFC Championship. Though admittedly Oakland could be a problem.
