Right off the bat, without even considering coverage, he is a far superior tackler to Cockrell.

At this point in his career he's mainly a zone guy, as is Cockrell, but Haden is far and away better in coverage. And actually has ball skills and can track the football lol. Cockrell was decent last year, this preseason he's looked like hot garbage. I'm 100% all about this move. Make it happen, Tombert.

Little more than I was expecting but I'm stoked

@AdamSchefter: Steelers are expected to sign former Browns CB Joe Haden to a three-year, $27 million deal, including $7M this year, sources told ESPN.

Cockrell might get cut now which is kinda crazy considering a week ago he was the starter. He's not a special teamer and isn't a slot guy. This is crazy.

@AdamSchefter: Steelers CB Joe Haden had bigger offers from other teams that he turned down because he wanted Pittsburgh. Haden a Steeler.

@RapSheet: The #Browns offered to cut CB Joe Haden's pay from $11M to $7M, source said. He ends up making exactly that with the #Steelers in year 1.

I don't know how many of you were around SA leading up to the 2010 Draft. But I'm sure Train remembers my love for Joe Haden lol

I'm a Gators fan too so I'm gonna be a little happier than most

T you said at this point he's a zone guy. Explain to me how a guy can be a zone guy and be better in coverage? Is it about scheme? Are we still a completely zone team now even adding this guy? No one could tackle worse than Cockrell. so that's a plus. This is a serious question. How does he make us better if we still can't press once in a while?

Depending on his health he can still play man coverage. That's not what I meant. I meant he's not quite the athlete he was a few years ago, meaning he's gonna be stronger in zone than man. He's 100% more capable of playing man coverage than Cockrell. And his ball skills and instincts are still top notch. Things Cockrell doesn't have.

Be happy, Rollers haha. They did exactly what you asked for; they benched Cockrell and addressed the secondary with a big free agent signing. If he's healthy he's a definite upgrade over Cockrell.

Essentially, we used to play a lot of very standard cover 2 zone, where the CBs played thirds. Playing man is a lot different than playing with either bail or a very deep cushion. Zone typically demands a bit more 'football intelligence' as opposed to technique and natural ability, meaning that a smart CB will excel at a zone-scheme in which he is allowed to read routes and play them accordingly. The trouble with this is, that it relies a lot on other players and them doing their assigned zones correctly. Man, on the other hand, seldom relies on much more than you beating your guy (very roughly put). A guy like Sutton is extremely smart but lacks a lot of fundamental technique and is not the most athletic guy you'll see. He benefits a lot from keeping the play in front of him (zone), and playing the coverage based on the reads he gets.

I'll put it this way as well:

Richard Sherman is mainly a zone corner. I don't think anyone would question how good he is.

What's the guranteed money in Hadens contract?

Yes T, I remember and Tomlin was as big a fan as you T...........

The Steelers made 2 moves at areas of need so I'm happy they attempted to upgrade the roster.....I just hope Allen isn't cut with this signing....I like his height and think he has tremendous upside but he is far from ready....I just think some team will scoop Allen if he is placed on the PS......

    Haden just stay healthy please....

The pressure really is on with the Ben window closing so Mike & Kevin are going all in to bring home a 7th Lombardi.....I still say Ben plays out his contract unless he suffers multi concussions or major injury.....
