Any thoughts on the injuries the Steelers have at this point?

Never really saw it with him...he was a bad football player in college.

Size so intriguing but those guys rarely work out

Not many notable ones. Some soft tissue things certain guys are dealing with but nothing too serious. I don't expect Shazier to miss any games but with his injury history his is a little worrisome. Same with Mitchell. Both seemed relatively minor but have kept them sidelined for weeks. JuJu has had some bad luck but hasn't had anything serious luckily. Recent one just a bone bruise. When it happened it seemed like it may have been serious. Got lucky there. Conner is back. Dupree is back. Coates is back. Hunter is back. Ayers is likely going to the practice squad. Biggest shame is Golson. I was hoping to see him push for a roster spot but there's just no way at this point.

Toussaint seems like an incredibly pedestrian player to me. 3.1 ypc and that's about it unfortunately.

I have been wondering if a lot of his being out so long has been an abundance of caution.

I hope so. Defense needs him. And I'm expecting a career year.

Didn't someone post here that they should franchise Bell and run him as hard as they can and maybe do it next year then let him go? I'm beginning to come around to that view. Would give us two years at his peak. There would be no dead money issue after either of those years correct?

    I've put out that possibility.

No, there is no dead money involved. His salary would be ~$12 million this season, ~$14 million next year if we tag him again, and then he would be a FA.

I don't begrudge him asking what he thinks he is worth but I do not hold it against the team for balking either. RBs go downhill fast.

Im not sure if we can trust the report that said he wanted at least 15mil each year, but Im fairly sure that no team in the League want that to be the direction the which the RB salary goes. It would completely blow the market to pieces. And before we all agree that Bell probably is the best all-around back in the league, it would still set the tone for future contracts, and no one wants that.

I'm just hoping Bell reports next week. If so, get a few weeks in before the season to get conditioned/back with your teammates before the season starts and no harm done.

I don't think you're going to see him next week. Just a feeling though. You could be right. I think he waits until the last minute. He's guaranteed the whole amount this year correct? It's guaranteed money? Same as next year if you franchise him again?

Guaranteed if he plays. If he holds out into the season, he loses 1/17 of his salary each week. That's why he will be there by week 1.

I don't think he'll hold out into the season just that he would report just before he starts losing money. I really hope the Steelers keep him for two more years with zero negotiations. But then that's a fan reaction and probably has more to do with me than him. they'll probably try and sign him. I'm sure cooler heads will prevail

I'm all for players getting as much money as they can. Their time is short, their value is big, and the pounding their body takes is enormous.

That being said, to want to be paid as both a #1 running back AND #2 WR, is a bit much. Bell is an enormous talent catching the ball but as a RB it's still part of the job. If the report of the contract offer was correct, that's a pretty fair deal for bell. IMO

Again, get as much money as you can, but if you get the franchise tag twice you're probably costing yourself money in the future.

It's more than a bit much to me. Catching the ball with any kind of frequency already ups his usefulness and value over a guy who strictly runs. And how many of those catches are checkdowns where he's the last available option?. Next thing you know he'll start talking about how good he is at picking up the blitz and also wanting to be paid as a lineman as well.

Remember, the "paid as a number two receiver" is mostly negotiating bluster. That would indicate him wanting about $20 million. The most that has been reported he wants is 15.

Some drops in the passing game but he looked pretty good (and quick) running the ball.
